Vladimir Putin submitted a draft law on establishment of Roscosmos State Corporation for consideration by the State Duma

The President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, submitted a draft law on establishment of Roscosmos State Corporation (and draft laws connected with it) for consideration by the State Duma. The document was included in the electronic database of the lower chamber of parliament, TASS reports.

It was reported earlier that the state corporation would be established on the basis of the Federal Space Agency (Roscosmos) and the United Rocket and Space Corporation (URSC). URSC CEO Igor Komarov will be the head of the new corporation. Earlier he said that the state corporation might be established by July 1st 2015.

On January 21st 2015 President of Russia Vladimir Putin approved the proposal of the Chairman of Russian Government Dmitry Medvedev to establish the 6th Russian State Corporation – Roscosmos (on the basis of the Federal Space Agency and URSC). Komarov was appointed head of the new state corporation.

“Earlier we have elaborated proposals to establish a number of companies, besides Roscosmos, in particular, United Rocket and Space Corporation as a Joint Stock Company, and it is working,” Medvedev said at the meeting with the President. According to him, “experience gained over the last years, demonstrates that our industry is facing serious challenges and the state must focus its efforts just like in case with nuclear industry”.

“That is why the government suggests to establish the new Roscosmos Corporation,” the Prime Minister said and offered Igor Komarov as the CEO of the corporation.

“I think that it is the right thing to do. I mean that it is not just an enterprise and not even an industry, - Putin said. – Rocket and space industry comprises a great number of different areas related both to science and mass production”.
