Mil Moscow Helicopter Plant (part of Russian Helicopters Holding Company) is going to complete certification of Mi-38 medium helicopter this year, Interfax-AVN reports.
“In accordance with the existing schedule certification of Mi-38 helicopter should be completed in October 2015,” a source, close to Russian military-industrial sector, told Interfax-AVN. According to him, flight certification tests are in progress; two test Mi-38s are taking part in the flight test program (OP-3 and OP-4). The test helicopters are powered by TV7-117V engines developed by Klimov Company (Russia).
“The flight certification tests are rather intense,” the source noted. He added that the fourth Mi-38 prototype (OP-4) features the design of production Mi-38 helicopter.
The source also said that Kazan Helicopters started production of the first batch of production Mi-38 helicopters.
The maximum takeoff weight of Mi-38 helicopter is 15,6 tons. Maximum payload inside the cabin – 6 tons, maximum payload on an external sling - 7 tons. Cruise speed - 285 km/h. The helicopter’s range is 660 km (with a payload of 3 tons) and 420 km (with a payload of 5 tons). The helicopter’s range with external fuel tanks and a payload of 2,7 tons is 1200 km.
