In September 2014 Chinese authorities signed a contract with Russia for delivery of four divisions of S-400 “Triumph” air defense systems, Kommersant reports with reference to Rosoboronexport CEO Anatoly Isaykin.
“I cannot give you details of the deal, but yes, China is really the launch customer for this latest Russian air defense system,” Isaykin said.
He believes that signing of this contract underlines the level of strategic cooperation between Russia and China.
Moreover, Rosoboronexport CEO noted that many countries are willing to purchase S-400 systems. However, he added that Russian Almaz-Antey Concern must deliver these systems to Russian Ministry of Defense first. According to Isaykin, even after increasing the production capacities, it is rather hard to deliver these systems to several countries simultaneously.
“In this context, China is the first one,” he said.
