Precision of the civil version of Russian GLONASS navigation system will increase by more than 4 times by 2020. Deputy Chairman of the Russian government Dmitry Rogozin told the President of Russia Vladimir Putin about it, the Kremlin’s press-service reports.
“We are successfully carrying out tests at the moment. The system demonstrates good results, more precise ones. As for the new next-generation GLONASS-K navigation satellite, it will allow us to reach the resolution of around 60 cm by 2020. As against 2 m 60 cm resolution that we have now,” Rogozin said.
Service life of the satellites will also be extended from 7,5 years to 15 years, Head of Roscosmos Igor Komarov added.
According to Dmitry Rogozin, 29 GLONASS-K satellites are in the orbit now: 24 of them are on duty and the rest 5 are backup ones. The testing is underway.
