UEC is going to participate in development of an engine for С-919 aircraft

United Engine Corporation (UEC, part of Rostec State Corporation) is going to take part in development of CJ-1000 engine for advanced Comac C-919 airliner, RIA Novosti reports with reference to UEC CEO Vladislav Masalov.

C-919 developed by Comac (Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China) is the short- and medium-haul passenger aircraft seating from 156 to 168 passengers. Mass media reported that the jet’s maiden flight is scheduled for 2015. First C-919 jets will be powered by CFM International LEAP engines.

“During the Airshow China exhibition held in Zhuhai in November 2014 the parties confirmed that they are interested in joint development of CJ-1000 engine for С-919 aircraft. We are waiting for a performance specification for the engine’s modules and control system,” Masalov said.

Earlier UEC discussed the possibility of developing and manufacturing a fan for the CJ-1000 engine with its Chinese partners; however, later UEC and ACAE (Avic Commercial Aircraft Engine) reconsidered the concept of their cooperation taking into account the status of this project and cost minimization. ACAE “is ready to delegate the technical audit to the Russian party,” Masalov noted.

UEC is the integrated company responsible for production of aircraft engines for military and civil aircraft, spacecraft, as well as gas turbine power plants used to generate electricity and heat energy, gas compressor units and marine gas turbine units. In February UEC obtained a license for carrying out foreign trade activities related to maintenance of military products.

Rostec is the Russian State Corporation established in 2007 in order to support development, production and exports of high-tech industrial civil and military products.
