Technodinamika: Russia and USA will develop a fire protection system for MS-21 aircraft

In 2016-2017 Technodinamika Holding Company (former Aviation Equipment, part of Rostec State Corporation) will test an advanced fire protection system for the next-generation Russian MS-21 aircraft in cooperation with the US-based Curtiss-Wright Corporation (CWC), RIA Novosti reports with reference to Technodinamika CEO Maxim Kuzyuk.

“We are going to complete development of the fire protection system in cooperation with Curtiss-Wright by the end of this year, and start its testing in 2016-2017. The system outmatches all the systems available at the Russian market. The weight of its components is 20% lower compared to analogues, and it will be more compact thanks to using a new block design and lighter fire extinguishers,” Kuzyuk said.

He noted that the system is “designed for the MS-21 jet, but can be adapted for use in Sukhoi Superjet 100 and other aircraft, including wide-body and cargo ones”.

“The system will offer superb reliability thanks to protection from false activation, and its versatility will allow installing it on different aircraft types. Thanks to its modular design the operation costs will decrease, while its service life can be extended to match the service life of the aircraft itself,” the Technodinamika CEO said.

MS-21 airliner developed by Irkut Corporation will be operated in Russia and other countries. MS-21 Family aircraft seating from 130 to 211 passengers are going to enter the most popular market segment, which is at present occupied by foreign analogues. Governor of Irkutsk Region, Sergey Eroschenko said earlier that the mass production of this airliner would be started in 2017.

Technodinamika Holding (it was called Aviation Equipment until March 2015) specializes in development, production and after-sales support of aircraft systems and components. In addition, Technodinamika manufactures parts and assemblies for the oil and gas, car, transport and energy industries. Technodinamika comprises 36 enterprises located in Moscow, Moscow Region, Ufa, Samara, Ulyanovsk, Arkhangelsk Region and other regions of Russia.

Rostec is the Russian State Corporation established in 2007 in order to support development, production and exports of high-tech industrial civil and military products.
