Russia is interested in development of carrier-based version of Ka-52 helicopter regardless of Mistrals’ fate

Russian Helicopters Holding Company is developing Ka-52K carrier-based helicopter and Russian Ministry of Defense is interested in this project, Deputy Minister of Defense Yuri Borisov told Interfax during his visit to Progress Arsenyev Aviation Company (part of Russian Helicopters, located in Primorski Krai).

“First of all, production of our own ships is underway and Ka-52K helicopter will be in demand anyway. So we are not going to associate development of the helicopter with deliveries of Mistrals,” Borisov said speaking about possible use of Ka-52K helicopters in case Mistral assault ships will not be delivered to Russia.

According to the Deputy Minister, the demand for Ka-52K helicopter is very high. “And we are going to control the implementation of this project,” he said.

Y.Borisov noted that operating conditions on a carrier differ from the ones on an airfield; that is why some improvements in terms of materials and components used are required.
