Russian Ministry of Transport to allow carriers to expand use of mobile phones onboard an aircraft

Russian Ministry of Transport is going to allow carriers to expand use of personal electronics onboard an aircraft, TASS reports with reference to the ministry.

“Transaero Airlines offered the Russian Ministry of Transport to lift restrictions on use of mobile devices onboard an aircraft during takeoff and landing, - representative of the ministry said. – At present the ministry is elaborating the corresponding order”.

Earlier Transaero reported that it offered the Ministry of Transport to lift restrictions on use of mobile devices onboard an aircraft during takeoff and landing adding that “in Russia the use of personal electronics onboard the aircraft is still limited by the order issued by the ministry’s department of air transport in 1995”.

The airline offered to cancel “this outdated order, which does not affect the level of flight safety”, Transaero First Deputy CEO Dmitry Stolyarov said.
