This year Russian Aircraft Corporation MiG will deliver 10 carrier-based MiG-29K/KUB fighters, Interfax-AVN reports with reference to RAC MiG CEO Sergey Korotkov.

“We are implementing contract for delivery of 24 carrier-based MiG-29K/KUB fighters to Russian navy. 14 aircraft of the type have already been delivered to the customer. This year we will deliver the rest 10 ones and implement the contract,” Korotkov said.

The ship-based MiG-29K fighters (single-seat) and MiG-29KUB jets (two-seat) are multi-role “4++”-generation jets intended for performing air defense and air superiority missions, destroying surface and ground targets using guided high-precision weapons under any lighting and weather conditions.

The jet’s airframe has been upgraded (a lot of its components are made of composites now). The fighters are fitted with folding wings and upgraded high lift devices as well as all-digital fly-by-wire control system with a quadruple redundancy; they have lower radar visibility. The jet’s payload has been increased. The vehicles are equipped with aerial refueling system.

MiG-29K/KUB fighters offer excellent operating performance and high reliability of units, systems and components. The service life of MiG-29K/KUB jets was extended (more than doubled) compared to previous versions of the aircraft; the cost per flight hour was reduced 2,5 times.

The jet is able to use the following weapons: guided air-to-air and air-to-surface missiles, guided bombs, unguided missiles, bombs and 30-mm cannon. More weapons may be added to the abovementioned nomenclature in accordance with a customer’s request.
