The joint project for development of wide-body Russian-Chinese aircraft will cost about $13 billion

The cost of development of a wide-body Russian-Chinese aircraft is assessed at $13 billion, the president of United Aircraft Corporation (UAC), Yuri Slusar, said.

He believes that this assessment corresponded to information used in September 2014, when the project’s business concept was approved.

«Conceptual design of the aircraft should be completed by July 2015. So far we have approved the business-concept and formed Russian-Chinese working group. Our colleagues from COMAC are excited about the project and they are doing their best to develop it,” Slusar said.

Moreover, the project’s budget must be recalculated due to ruble’s depreciation. Slusar also said that Russia and China are participating in this project on a parity basis. He also hopes that in light of ruble’s depreciation the project’s cost may be lowered.

“These figures are preliminary ones,” he added saying that the parties need to complete the feasibility study first.

We remind you that development of Russian-Chinese aircraft should be completed in 2021. Its certification should be completed in 2022-2023 and the jet’s mass production will be launched in 2025.
