Sergey Eroschenko: the first production MS-21 aircraft will be manufactured in 2017

The first production MS-21 aircraft will be manufactured by Irkutsk Aviation Plant in two years, RIA Novosti reports with reference to the press-service of the governor of Irkutsk Region.

Sergey Eroschenko told about it in his speech dedicated to the results of 2014 and major focus areas of the region for 2015; he delivered the speech in front of deputies of the legislative assembly, heads of city councils, representatives of political parties and non-governmental organizations.

According to the governor, machine building is one of the most important industries, which defines the region’s production capabilities, assures stability of the most important economic sectors. “A machine building cluster was established in the region and its key enterprise is Irkutsk Aviation Plant, which is completing development and testing of MS-21 aircraft… The first stage of testing of the jet’s large-scale model has already been completed…The first production MS-21 will be manufactured in 2017,” Eroschenko said.

He noted that it is planned to establish centers for attracting small and medium business to the machine building area in the network of the cluster.

Irkutsk Aviation Plant is a part of Irkut Corporation; the enterprise manufactures Su-30SM multi-role fighters and Yak-130 operational trainers. MS-21 airliner developed by Irkut Corporation will be operated in Russia and other countries.

MS-21 Family aircraft seating from 130 to 211 passengers are going to enter the most popular market segment, which is at present occupied by foreign analogues.
