The fleet of Tu-214SR relay aircraft will be expanded to five jets in 2015

This year Kazan Aviation Plant named after S.P. Gorbunov – branch of Tupolev Company must deliver two Tu-214SR relay aircraft under a state contract, Interfax-AVN reports with reference to a source close to the national aircraft industry.

“After delivering the two relay aircraft to a customer the Tu-214SR fleet will comprise five jets of the type,” the source said. 

He reminded that Kazan Aviation Plant earlier implemented contracts for delivery of three Tu-214SR jets, two Tu-214ON (“Open Skies”), two Tu-214SUS (airborne communication center) and two Tu-214PU (flying command post) aircraft. Moreover, production of Tu-214R aircraft has been completed; its testing is in progress.

According to the source, there are more orders for special-purpose aircraft derived from Tu-214 liner. “At present Tupolev Company is developing new special-purpose aircraft derived from Tu-214. In particular, the company may sign a contract for delivery of a new batch of such vehicles this year,” he said.

The takeoff weight of Tu-214 aircraft is 110,75 tons. It is powered by two PS-90A engines having a thrust of 16 tons each. During the flight testing Tu-214SR aircraft fitted with additional fuel tanks confirmed the possibility of performing non-stop flights with a flying distance of over 10,000 km.
