Specialists of Academician M.F. Reshetnev Information Satellite Systems (ISS Reshetnev) are developing a new high-pressure xenon tank intended for future satellites’ orbit control systems. The high-pressure xenon tank, which is being developed by the company in cooperation with research organizations, is designed to provide heavy-class satellites with more propellant, the company’s press-service noted.

The first satellite fitted with a tank made of metal matrix composite was Express-AM6 launched on October 21st 2014. This tank replaced four previous-generation tanks; its weight is twice lower and it contains 350 kg of propellant instead of 280 kg.

The new high-pressure xenon tank is derived from the one installed on Express-AM6 satellite. Thanks to a number of design improvements it will provide the satellite with 570 kg of xenon. This innovative solution will help improve the characteristics and extend service life of satellites manufactured by ISS Reshetnev, the press-service noted.
