The Syrian army engaged in fierce clashes with Takfiri militants in a key neighborhood in Aleppo and thwarted their attempt to spread to other areas, sources said, adding that Russian and Syrian warplanes also bombed terrorists' positions in the province, FARS reported.
Field sources said on Monday that the army engaged in heavy clashes with terrorists in Bani Zeid neighborhood, and repelled their attempt to infiltrate al-Khaldiyeh neighborhood in Aleppo city.
The terrorists suffered heavy losses in the battle with the army.
The news comes as military sources said Syrian warplanes bombed ISIL positions and supply routes in Jrouf and Rasm al-Mesherfeh in Deir Hafer area, 52 kilometers East of Aleppo city.
Sources also said the Russian warplanes bombed terrorists' vehicles and positions in Khan Assal and Zerbeh village in Aleppo.
The Russian jets also launched 14 airstrikes on Daret Azza town.
Six Russian air raids also hit terrorists' positions in the vicinity of al-Humira village, Khan Tuman town and Aleppo-Damascus highway in Southern Aleppo.
Earlier reports said terrorists' movement on a part of the strategic international highway between Damascus and Aleppo in the Southern parts of Aleppo was cut off as the region came in the range of the Syrian army fire.
A part of the highway in the Southern parts of Aleppo province was the last segment used by the terrorists for transferring supplies and movement, and the latest reports say the segment is under intense fire of the Syrian army and its allies.
Sources also said the Syrian forces has captured a large number of terrorists from various nationalities during their advances in Southern Aleppo.
