Turkey’s Air Force conducted an operation on patrolling the Turkish-Syrian border, the country’s general staff said on Monday.

"Twelve F-16 jets carried out patrol flights along the Turkish-Syrian border," the statement said. The operation was conducted on December 6.

Three military boats and a mobile radar also fulfilled the task of controlling the Turkish-Syrian border from the sea.

Since November 24, when the Turkish fighter jets downed Russia’s Su-24M bomber in Syria near the border with Turkey, the activity of Turkey’s Air Force in the near-border area decreased, and there were no reports on the trans-border strikes against the Islamic State in Syria.

The Turkish Army concentrated its major forces on the border with Syria. The mobilization of military units to these regions began around three years ago when trans-border threats increased.

Ankara earlier said it was preparing for a major Air Force operation against the IS jointly with the US.
