Starting from December 1, Southern MD Army Aviation bases that are part of the 4th AF and AD Army, have been transformed into a Army Aviation brigade (located in Rostov region) and into 2 separate helicopter regiments (located in Krasnodar and Stavropol Krais respectively).

The aim of this transformation is to raise the effectiveness of Army Aviation combat employment and control prearrangement as well as improve the quality of daily activities’ organization.

The Southern MD Army Aviation units and formations are equipped with modern attack and transport helicopters, such as Mi-28 N “Night Hunter”, Mi-35 M “Crocodile”, K-52 “Alligator”, Mi-8 AMTSH and Mi-28.

Currently Mi-28 N attack helicopters are in active supply to the Rostov region-based Army Aviation brigade. For the last two weeks the aviators have received 7 helicopters of this modification.

During the new training year Southern MD Army Aviation crews are to complete over 20 thousand flights in flat and mountain-woody terrains, to bomb with aviation bombs ranging from 300 to 2.5 thousand meters altitude, they are also to execute 1.5 thousand combat firings with the employment of rockets and missiles against land targets.
