Russian Emergencies Minister opens unmanned aircraft center in Khimki near Moscow

Today, Minister Vladimir Puchkov opened an unmanned aircraft center of the Emergencies Ministry's Main Office for Moscow Region in Khimki near Moscow.

"The creation of an unmanned aircraft center will help conduct the monitoring at a new quality level and will increase the level of emergency response," the minister said. Drones will be used in aerial reconnaissance to determine the exact coordinates of emergency zones, affected facilities, natural and man-made fires. They will be monitoring the flood situation, ice jams."

Vladimir Puchkov added that the vicinities of Moscow "are a pioneer area in the implementation of all new modern approaches in the area of ensuring the safety of the population."

During the opening the presentation of the center's equipment and the demonstration of a helicopter-type unmanned aircraft were held. The guests of honor were shown a video from the drone, which was broadcasted on the screen of a mobile complex of informing and alerting the population based on a KAMAZ.

The main advantage of the center's units is their autonomy and mobility. The center has special vehicles to deliver the machines at any given point, to work as part of task forces and airmobile groups of the Emergencies Ministry. A mobile control station equipped with workstations of drone operators, communications equipment, and a mobile generator is intended to ensure the performance of a drone crew in remote and rough-terrain areas.

The opening of the unmanned aircraft center of the Main Moscow Region Office of the Emergencies Ministry was timed to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the Ministry.

"Today, the rescue service performs a wide range of tasks related to emergency prevention and disaster response in order to provide assistance and support to victims," said Vladimir Puchkov. "The system of crisis management is developing."

The minister said that this year Ministry's units were provided with new domestically produced vehicles, equipment and gear. "Together with the Russian Academy of Sciences we are continuing to develop and implement Russian technologies for the prevention of emergencies. These are space monitoring, drones, robotics and much more," said Vladimir Puchkov.
