Russian Mil Mi-24 helicopter gunships are being prepared before taking off for combat missions against Daesh (Islamic State) militants from the Hmeymim airbase in Syria.

On September 30, Russia launched airstrikes against Daesh in Syria at the request of President Bashar Assad. Since the beginning of the operation, jets of the Russian Aerospace Forces have carried out over 4,200 missions against terrorist targets.
