Russian cosmonaut Oleg Kononenko took a unique picture of Moscow and St. Petersburg basking in the glow of the aurora borealis from aboard the International Space Station.

The sprawling, shining city of Moscow can clearly be seen in the center while St. Petersburg is obscured by clouds, appearing only as a dot of light in the upper left corner.

Sergei Volkov. another Russian cosmonaut aboard the ISS, posted this amazing photo on Twitter.
