The Russian Sukhoi Su-24 bomber downed by the Turkish Air Force in Syria did not violate Turkish airspace and did not pose any threat to Turkey, Russian Deputy Aerospace Forces Commander Sergei Dronov said.

"At the present moment, we possess all the necessary evidence proving that the Russian plane did not violate the boundaries of Turkish airspace," Dronov said at a news briefing at the Russian Defense Ministry on Friday.

"The readout data concerning the situation in the said district in Syrian airspace, which we published earlier, have still not been disproven by anyone, including Turkey. In any case, our plane did not pose any danger to the Republic of Turkey," he said.

Dronov pointed out that the Russian Su-24 frontline bomber was shot down by a Turkish Air Force F-16 fighter using an air-to-air missile on Nov. 24.

"The targets for the Su-24's strikes were designated in the northwestern part of Syria 5.5 kilometers away from the Republic of Turkey's border. The same day, the Turkish leadership confirmed the fact of the use of weapons by a Turkish Air Force fighter to destroy the Russian plane, alleging in explanation that it violated [Turkish] airspace," Dronov said.
