Russia may appeal Ukraine’s ban on transit flights by Russian aircraft to the International Court of Justice

Ukraine’s ban on transit flights by Russian passenger aircraft through its territory violates the international regulations and allows Russia to appeal the ban to the International Court of Justice. This was stated by the Deputy Chairman of State Duma’s Transport Committee, Mikhail Bryachak (“Spravedlivaya Rossiya”), TASS reports.

He explained that the transit flights might be suspended only in case of war in the country. However, “Minsk agreements are in force, the fire has been ceased, weapons and military equipment are being withdrawn in Donetsk and Lugansk, so, today Ukraine has no reasons for introducing such measures,” the deputy said.

“I think that in future this decision may be appealed to the international court,” Bryachak told “Russkaya sluzhba novostei” radio station.

The Deputy Chairman of the Duma’s committee is confident that Russia might well win this appeal, because this decision violates ICAO regulations.

On November 25th Ukraine has closed its airspace to Russian air carriers (including transit flights). Earlier a ban was imposed on air transportation of military cargo and Russian troops.
