USA authorities have no proof that a terrorist act caused the crash of Russian A321 aircraft in Sinai Peninsula, Intefax reports with reference to James Clapper, Director of National Intelligence.
According to him, USA does not see “any direct evidence” for this. According to Clapper, it is “unlikely” that terrorists from the Islamic State were able to attack the aircraft. However, he added that he “wouldn’t rule it out”.
Earlier The Daily Mail reported that a video posted by members of ISIS, which allegedly shows the crash of Russian aircraft, is irrelevant to the Russian liner. The newspaper added that low quality of the video makes it impossible to identify the flying object with a tail of smoke.
Airbus А321 aircraft operated by Kogalymavia (works under Metrojet brand), which was performing flight from Sharm el-Sheikh to St. Petersburg, crashed on October 31st 2015 in the northern part of Sinai Peninsula near Al-Arish city. All 224 people, who were onboard, died.
The Interstate Aviation Committee said that the aircraft collapsed in the air, adding that it is too early to jump to conclusions on the reasons of the crash.
Kogalymavia assured that the “external impact” may be the only possible reason of the crash and ruled out the possibility of technical faults or pilot’s error. “There is no possible combination of faults that might have caused the liner to collapse in the air,” Kogalymavia stated.
Meanwhile, US mass media reported with reference to Egyptian air accidents committee that the first studies of black boxes indicated that the aircraft didn’t send the SOS signal prior to disappearing from radars and didn’t experience any external impact.
