Russia's tourism cooperation with Turkey will be put on hold, head of the federal tourism agency (Rosturizm) Oleg Safonov told reporters on Nov. 26.

"Obviously, cooperation with Turkey in the tourist sector will be discontinued," Safonov said.

He said the incident with the Russian Su-24 fighter jet will have serious and long-term consequences for Turkey.

"Turkey used to receive more than 4,400,000 Russian tourists and Turkey's related annual income reached approximately $10 billion," Safonov said.

"It is absolutely clear that Turkey won't be earning this money anymore," he said.

According to Safonov, Russian outbound tourism will fall by 40 percent in 2016.

At the moment, development of domestic tourism is of strategic interest to Russia, so "you should not be worried by the fall in outbound tourism," he said.

"We are actively developing domestic tourism and predict it to grow by over 30 percent in 2016," said the Rosturizm chief.

He also said that inbound tourism is expected to increase by about 16 percent.
