A modified version of the Russian Mil Mi-8 military transport helicopter adapted for Arctic weather conditions was demonstrated to journalists near Ulan-Ude, the capital of Russia’s Buryat Republic.
The prototype, named Mi-8AMTSh-VA Terminator, is equipped with powerful engines, an ice-protection system, ski-landing gear, and an inertial navigation system.
The helicopter is adapted for operating in sub-zero conditions up to minus 60 Celsius. The prototype was handed over to the Russian Defense Ministry. Its series production is expected to begin in 2016.
