Flight tests of PD-14 engine confirmed its claimed characteristics

The Il-76 flying testbed performed four test flights with the latest PD-14 engine developed by Aviadvigatel (Perm), Kommersant-Perm reports with reference to Russian Minister of Industry and Trade, Denis Manturov.

«The data obtained during first test flights shows that the engine meets all the claimed characteristics,” Manturov said. According to him, the test team will have all the required information in the first half of 2016. «I’m talking about specific fuel consumption, thrust, temperature in different sections of the engine as well as strength performance, - he said, - we must intensify both ground and flight testing”.

According to Denis Manturov, flight testing of PD-14 installed on the advanced MS-21 medium-haul aircraft is scheduled for 2017 as well as its certification testing, which should be carried out in cooperation with Interstate Aviation Committee and EASA (European Aviation Safety Agency). As a result the company will receive the engine’s type certificate. The minister added that most of MS-21 components should be produced in Russia.

At present the share of Russian-produced MS-21 components is around 60%. A total of about 100 companies from 8 countries of the world are involved in production of MS-21 airliners.
