Over the next ten years 750 billion rubles will be invested in development of three Russian spaceports. This sum is specified in the Federal Target Program “Development of Russian spaceports for 2016–2025”, Izvestiya reports.
“The current version of the Federal Target Program “Development of Russian spaceports for 2016–2025” has a budget of around 750 billion rubles, — Rano Dzhuraeva, Interim TsENKI CEO said (TsENKI stands for center for operation of ground space infrastructure). — Significant part of these funds is intended for construction of the new Russian spaceport Vostochniy. About 50 billion should be invested in Baikonur, where Russian Federation is working (lease agreement will expire only in 2050). Baikonur’s infrastructure needs maintenance and some of its components need to be replaced or repaired. Reconstruction of Krainiy airport is being completed; upgrade of safety control system will be continued soon. And some funds will be allocated for development of Plesetsk spaceport (Arkhangelsk Region).
Dzhuraeva didn’t unveil the exact sum to be invested in development of Vostochniy; however, a source close to Russian Ministry of Defense and familiar with the situation said that around 180 billion rubles should be spent on development of Plesetsk spaceport in the network of this program. So, more than 500 billion should be invested in Vostochniy. These funds should be spent on construction of a number of facilities: airport, highways, houses and social facilities of Tsiolkovskiy city. The space infrastructure itself will be financed not only via the federal target program, but also from the budget of the Federal Space Program.
