Turkey to Meet North Atlantic Council Tuesday After Downing Russian Jet

North Atlantic Council (NAC), will hold an extraordinary meeting with Turkey, NATO’s deputy spokesman told Sputnik on Tuesday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik), Anastasia Levchenko – NATO's decision-making body, the North Atlantic Council (NAC), will hold an extraordinary meeting with Turkey over the downing of a Russian fighter jet, NATO’s deputy spokesman told Sputnik on Tuesday.

"At the request of Turkey, the North Atlantic Council will hold an extraordinary meeting at 17.00 Brussels time [16:00 GMT]," Carmen Romero said.

Romero said the alliance was monitoring the situation surrounding Turkey downing Russia’s Su-24 "closely" and was "in close contact" with Turkish authorities,

"The aim of this extraordinary NAC meeting is for Turkey to inform Allies about the downing of a Russian airplane," she added.
