India is willing to purchase Russian S-400 systems as soon as possible, RIA Novosti reports with reference to Economic Times and sources close to Indian Ministry of Defense. In early October the newspaper reported that Indian air forces are interested in purchasing about 10 S-400 systems.

According to the sources, the project is being considered at a rapid pace due to an "urgent need for" these systems caused by the fact that China will take delivery of six S-400 systems in 2017. "Pakistan is also interested in purchasing S-400," the source added.

India’s Minister of Defense Manohar Parrikar visited Moscow and took part in meeting of the Russian-Indian intergovernmental commission on military-technical cooperation held on November 2nd. It is expected that the parties would discuss the acquisition of S-400 systems by India during his visit to Moscow.

Moreover, the parties should discuss a project for joint production of Ka-226T helicopters in the network of “Make in India” program, as well as leasing of the second Akula-class nuclear submarine.
