S7 Airlines addressed the interdepartmental commission of Russian Ministry of Transport in order to obtain 24 international destinations, where Transaero Airlines was the appointed carrier, Interfax reports with reference to Chairman of the Board of Directors of S7 Group, Natalya Fileva.
“We have filed the application for 24 destinations. We want an honest market. If Aeroflot gets all the destinations, it may affect fares and, as a result, passengers. I know that the government does not want to give everything to Aeroflot, they want to do it the right way,” she told journalists. According to her, other carriers are also seeking these destinations, but she didn’t say which ones.
A source close to one of these airlines said that Aeroflot is seeking 56 out of Transaero’s 150 international destinations.
In 2014 Transaero transported 13,2 passengers (+5,6% year-on-year). In autumn 2015 Russian government made a decision to bankrupt Transaero and the carrier stopped selling tickets on October 1st. Transaero’s round-trip tickets with the departure before December 15th and return flight scheduled for dates after December 15th will be cancelled.
