Russia and India completed detailed design of the export version of PAK FA

Russia and India completed detailed design of the export version of PAK FA fifth-generation fighter, RIA Novosti reports with reference to UAC Regional Director on International Cooperation, Andrey Marshankin.

“We and our Indian colleagues completed detailed design of the export version of PAK FA - FGFA (fifth generation fighter aircraft). We have necessary documentation, we understand what we should do at the next stage of the project and we have defined potential scope of mass production,” he said.

Marshankin said that Russian version of the fighter is piloted by one pilot, while Indian air forces prefer fighters piloted by two pilots. “Today it is hard to maneuver and attack an enemy simultaneously. So far India believes that the Indian version of the fifth-generation fighter will be piloted by two crew members,” he explained.

PAK FA is Russian multi-role fifth-generation fighter. Composite components, cutting-edge technologies, the jet’s aerodynamic configuration and engine performance grant a very low radar, optical and IR signature.

Russian air forces expect to take delivery of the first T-50 in 2016; last winter the air forces took delivery of the first T-50 prototype intended for flight testing. So far only one country in the world operates fifth-generation fighters — USA (F-22 and F-35).
