Perm Engine Company (PEC) achieved a very important milestone: the engine core of the new PD-14 engine has been assembled by the mass production plant for the first time ever, press-service of the PEC reports.

“A lot of enterprises are involved in development of the next-generation engine: PEC, Aiadvigatel, STAR (Perm), Ufa Engine Industrial Association (UMPO), NPO Saturn (Ryibinsk), NPTsG Salut, Metallist-Samara, etc. For example, titan intermediate case and High Pressure Compressor (HPC) rotor for the engine core were manufactured by UMPO, central drive – by NPTsG Salut. PEC manufactured HPC stator, combustion chamber and High Pressure Turbine (HPT),” the company noted.

The most high-skilled specialists are working on the PD-14 assembly line – Class 5 or 6 assemblers having long-term experience in this area. They all have passed special training courses and tests. «We are proud to be a part of development of the next-generation engine and rebirth of Russian aviation,» employees of the PEC’s assembly line said. Upon completion of the assembly of PD-14 engine core it was balanced and delivered to Aviadvigatel for further testing. The next PD-14 will be assembled by PEC from the beginning to the end. At least 18 test engines will be manufactured: they will be used in the course of certification of the engine and the aircraft, PEC added.  

PD-14 is the Russian next-generation bypass turbofan engine intended for short- and medium-haul aircraft. The major feature of PD-14 is usage of a compact common engine core, which allows developing a family of aircraft engines and gas turbine power plants. 

Over the last 45 years the Perm Engine Company started mass production of several engines and their modifications, including D30-F6 and PS-90. PEC Deputy Chief Technology Officer Vladimir Yurkov said: «When we were starting mass production of D30-F6, 49 test engines were assembled by Aviadvigatel pilot-production plant and only the 50^th one was assembled by PEC. The 13^th PS-90 engine was assembled by PEC; as for the PD-14 – the 7^th one will be assembled by the enterprise».
