Another batch of attack helicopters was delivered to Iraq

Another batch of Russian-produced Mi-28NE “Night Hunter” attack helicopters was delivered to Iraq, ITAR-TASS reports with reference to the website of Iraqi Ministry of Defense.

"These helicopters will be put into service and take part in operations against Islamic State of Iraq and Levant (ISIL) terrorist group”, - said in the statement.

"Iraqi armed forces need helicopters of the type to support their operations", - Lieutenant General of Iraqi armed forces noted. The officer noted that Mi-28NE vehicles possess the required firepower and are capable of carrying out combat missions under any weather and lighting conditions. According to him, these vehicles may also be used to deliver supplies to blocked areas as in the case with Yazidis (Kurdish ethno-religious community), who escaped from ISIL and moved to Sinjar mountain located in the northern part of the country.

The exact number of helicopters was not specified. As judged by a video posted at the website, at least three Mi-28NE helicopters were delivered to the customer. All the vehicles were in a knock-down condition. The delivery is supported by Russian specialists, who have held a briefing for Iraqi officers.

The contract for delivery of military equipment and vehicles worth $4,2 billion between Russia and Iraq was signed in 2012. According to experts, the cost of the delivered vehicles, including ground equipment and weapons, exceeds $1 billion.
