CEO of Transaero, Olga Pleshakova, made the list of world’s most powerful women in business of 2014 made by Fortune; she is the only representative of Russia in this rating, the carrier’s press-service reports.
This year Fortune decided to make separate ratings for different regions instead of a single international list. In addition to the list of 50 most powerful businesswomen of USA, the editors made two more ratings: 25 most powerful women in business of Europe, the Middle East and Africa as well as 25 most powerful women in business of Asia-Pacific. Olga Pleshakova made the list of top-25 most powerful businesswomen of Europe, the Middle East and Africa. CEO of Transaero made the list of the world’s most powerful business ladies for the third straight year.
The annual international ratings are made by Fortune on the basis of analysis of the activities of the world’s largest companies from different economic sectors. The participants of the rating are chosen by the editors by a number of criteria: size and importance of the business headed by the woman, business situation and its trends, woman’s career and her prospects, impact on social and cultural environment. Olga Pleshakova graduated from the Moscow Aviation Institute, and holds a Ph.D. degree in Technical Sciences. She joined Transaero Airlines in 1992. On May 21st, 2001 Olga Pleshakova was appointed CEO of Transaero and became the first woman in Russia to head an airline. Under her leadership Transaero’s passenger turnover has increased 47 times, passenger traffic – 32 times. Transaero is the Russia’s second largest airline. The airline has made the list of the 10 largest airlines in Europe and top 35 carriers of the world in terms of passenger traffic. Transaero has the largest fleet of long-haul wide-body aircraft in Russia, CIS Region and Eastern Europe. The airline’s route network includes over 200 destinations in Russia, Europe, Asia, America and Africa.
Olga Pleshakova has been awarded with the honorary degree “The honored transport industry worker of the Russian Federation"; Order “For Honor and Valiance"; Order “Patron of Arts"; Order of Saint Olga; National Order of Merit (France); Medal “In Commemoration of the 850th Anniversary of Moscow"; St. Petersburg Governor’s Certificate of Merit; Oryol Region Governor’s Certificate of Merit and “AirTransport Expert" Award Pin and the Badge of Honor named after Grand Duchess Elizaveta Fedorovna.
