The Daniel and Florence Guggenheim Memorial Lecture is an essential part of ICAS Congress. This tradition was founded by the International Council for the Aeronautical Sciences in 1957 in acknowledgement of support provided by the Daniel and Florence Guggenheim charitable foundation, which helped promote international cooperation in the field of aeronautics. The honorary right to deliver the opening lecture at the congress is granted to scientists and engineers who made substantial contribution to development of aeronautics, the press-service added.

Professor Chernyshev told the congress participants about the challenges faced by aeronautics and new opportunities for international cooperation. Experts from different countries are focused on the following problems: improvement of flight safety, lift-to-drag ratio and eco-efficiency of aircraft, usage of new materials and design solutions, search for innovative technologies. The abovementioned problems may be solved only in the network of a close cooperation. The HEXAFLY-INT, HISAC, ALISIA, SUPRA, PolarBear joint projects were demonstrated as examples of successful international cooperation between TsAGI and international research centers.

“Delivering the memorial lecture and receiving the award of the same name is a great honor for me and an important milestone for TsAGI. We, the scientists of the Russian center of aeronautical science, are doing our best to remain at the cutting edge of scientific thought, to find and offer state-of-the-art efficient solutions to current problems of the industry. TsAGI lays stress on international cooperation, because progress in science is possible only via teamwork. Over last decades the institute has expanded cooperation with foreign partners, and we will continue to move forward to new discoveries and achievements together with our colleagues from different countries of the world”, - Chernyshev said while commenting on the award.
