The Russia’s leading developer of combat aircraft Sukhoi Design Bureau (part of Sukhoi Holding Company) celebrated its 75th anniversary on July 29th 2014. During these years it did much to develop the national aircraft industry and strengthen the country’s defense capacity. The design bureau is one of the world’s leading enterprises in the area of aircraft design, said in the statement of Sukhoi Holding Company’s press-service.

Sukhoi Design Bureau is the developer and system coordinator of high-tech aviation products of the 21st century. The enterprise is among leaders of Russian aircraft industry in military aircraft segment in terms of research and development work, resources and production capacities used as well as advanced technologies. Sukhoi Design Bureau as well as Novosibirsk Aviation Plant named after V.P. Chkalov and Komsomolsk-on-Amur Aviation Plant named after Y.A. Gagarin were merged into Sukhoi Holding Company on January 1st 2013; it gave a new impulse to development of the design bureau", - the press-service noted.
We remind you that OKB-135 (OKB stands for experimental design bureau) was established on July 29th 1939; Pavel Osipovich Sukhoi was appointed the bureau’s Chief Designer in accordance with the order of Defense Commissariat of the Council of People’s Commissars of USSR. Under the leadership of this outstanding designer and his successors the enterprise developed such combat aircraft as Su-7 fighter; Su-9, Su-11 and Su-15 fighter-interceptors; Su-17 fighter-bomber with a variable-sweep wing; Su-24 bomber; Su-25 strike fighter; Su-27, Su-30 and Su-33 super-maneuverable fighters, Su-34 bombers, Su-35 multi-role fighter, Su-47 forward-swept-wing aircraft; Su-80; Su-38; etc.
Today about 60% of Russian air forces’ fleet is accounted for “Su” aircraft. Sukhoi jets are operated by units of front-line, bomber, reconnaissance and assault aviation as well as sea-based aviation of the navy. Over 12,000 Sukhoi aircraft have been manufactured so far. “Su” aircraft are operated by armed forces of over 30 countries; these vehicles are being delivered to South-East Asia, Latin America and Middle East.
Sukhoi Design Bureau is developing UAVs, upgrading aircraft operated by Russian air forces, carrying out research and development work to assure export deliveries, developing flight simulators and special classrooms. It is also taking part in development of Sukhoi Superjet 100 and MS-21 airliners.
"In order to keep the leading positions at the global market in the area of development and production of aircraft Sukhoi Design Bureau is carrying out modernization of production and technical re-equipping. In order to assure human resource development Sukhoi Design Bureau is implementing a long-term program Rezerv-3 (it will be completed in 2015). The program is aimed at training of future mid-level executives and top-managers. Lean manufacturing technologies are being implemented starting from the early stages of development. Special attention is paid to employment of young professionals. Sukhoi Design Bureau has long-term agreements with Moscow Aviation Institute. Many students, which study at the institute’s Aircraft Design Department number 101 join Sukhoi Design Bureau after graduation", - the press-service added.
