Russia to deliver four divisions of S-300 air defense systems to Belarus

Four divisions of S-300 air defense systems will be delivered to Belarus by October 2015, Voenno-promishlenniy Courier reports with reference to the Belarusian Minister of Defense, Andrei Ravkov.

«The missiles have already been delivered, the systems are under maintenance; they will be delivered to Belarus by October 2015,» the Minister of Defense said. Ravkov added that these divisions would be deployed “in Grodno, Brest and Polotsk”.

Russian ambassador in Minsk, Alexander Surikov, said that besides deliveries of the air defense systems, presence of Russian air forces in Belarus would be expanded in 2015 (the number of Russian combat aircraft deployed in Belarus will reach 12 ones). «In 2015 we are going to increase the number of combat aircraft deployed in the country to 12 ones and 2 trainers. Moreover, a squadron of 4 Mi-8 helicopters will join them in order to patrol Belarusian airspace,» he noted.
