Foreign pilots may be employed in Russia without military ID

After receiving a grievance filed by the Pilots Association, Russian Ministry of Transport stated that Russian carriers might employ foreign pilots without a military ID; Minister of Transport, Maxim Sokolov, has signed the corresponding order, RIA Novosti reports.

Earlier Russian Pilots Association asked the Federal Service for Transport Supervision to check the military ID and medical certificate of a German citizen — the first foreign pilot employed by Aeroflot – Russian Airlines. The employed pilots must present the military ID and medical certificate in accordance with the Federal Aviation Regulations approved by the Ministry of Transport in 2002.

“The order (signed by Sokolov) allows non-residents of Russia, which are employed as captains, not to present military ID during medical examination,” said in the ministry’s statement.

Moreover, the procedure of medical examination was streamlined, the period of medical examination of candidates carried out in hospital was reduced and the scope of examination was changed.

The document signed by Sokolov harmonized the Article 63 of the Federal Aviation Regulations with the annex 1 of the Convention on International Civil Aviation. The order is being registered by the Russian Ministry of Justice.
