Brazilian air forces took delivery of the last 12 Russian-produced military-transport Mi-35M helicopters (designated AH-2 Sabre in Brazil). The helicopters were delivered to Porto Velho by An-124 Ruslan transport aircraft on November 26th 2014, Lenta.ru reports with reference to press-service of Brazilian air forces.

The contract for delivery of the dozen of helicopters worth $150 million was signed in 2008. The first vehicles were delivered to Brazil in late 2009. The contract also included delivery of a trainer and provision of materiel support.

Brazil has chosen Russian helicopters following the results of a tender held in 2007. Besides Rosoboronexport, AgustaWestland (A-129 Mangusta helicopter) and Eurocopter (EC 665 Tiger) also took part in the tender. The latter one did not make it to the final round.

The crew of Mi-35M helicopter includes two or three pilots; the vehicle may carry up to 8 troopers. The helicopter’s maximum speed is 300 km/h (with a payload of 2400 kg) and its range is 450 km. The vehicle is fitted with 23 mm cannon and missiles of different types. Moreover, it may be equipped with two gun containers with GSh-23L.
