VSMPO-Avisma passed FAA audit

Specialists of the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) carried out an audit on VSMPO-Avisma. The auditors confirmed that the Russian company fulfills the requirements of US legislation in terms of industrial safety (this refers to production and operation of Boeing aircraft), Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade reports.

The FAA checked the production of two parts: landing gear beam for Boeing 737 aircraft and a wing chord for Boeing 787-9 liners. The auditors observed the production of formed parts and studied documentation on the promotion of contractual requirements. Special attention was paid to the production methods, technical drawings, and their development. A VSMPO team worked together with the Boeing company team and FAA; a Quality Director of Tirus-US enterprise (subsidiary of VSMPO), Dario Oru, also took part in the audit.

“We helped Boeing prove that VSMPO complies with all of the requirements of US legislation in terms of industrial safety (this refers to production and operation of Boeing aircraft). The audit was successfully passed by both VSMPO and Boeing,” the head of the VSMPO-Avisma process and production certification department Ivan Shevchenko said.

VSMPO-Avisma is the world’s largest manufacturer of the titanium, ingots, and all kinds of semi-finished products made of titanium alloys as well as pressed large-scale products made of aluminum, semi-finished products made of alloy steels, and heat-resistant nickel alloys. The company’s staff comprises around 19 000 employees. The controlling block of shares (50%+1 share) of VSMPO-Avisma is owned by the company’s management, and a blocking stake is owned by Rostec State Corporation (25% + 1 share).
