Mi-28NE Night Hunter combat helicopters delivered to Iraq from Russia are ready to take part in operations against Islamic State of Iraq and Levant (ISIL) terrorist group, Interfax-AVN reports with reference to Iraqi Ministry of Defense.

“Minister of Defense, Khaled al-Obeidi and a number of high-ranking commanders attended the final stage of preparation of the first batch of helicopters, which included munition loading”, - said in the statement of the Iraqi Ministry of Defense.

“These helicopters known as Night Hunters will improve the efficiency of anti-terror operations carried out by Iraqi air forces”, - said in the statement. “This refers to first batch of helicopters delivered under a contract with Russia”. The number of delivered helicopters was not specified in the statement.

Earlier a source told Interfax-AVN that Russia is successfully implementing the contract for delivery of helicopters to Iraq signed in 2013; however, Russia did not send any military specialists to the country. “Only guarantee teams of the enterprises of Russian Helicopters Holding Company are working in Iraq. There are no Russian military specialists”, - he said.

In 2013 Iraq signed the contract for delivery of 40 Mi-35 and Mi-28NE helicopters. At present the deliveries are in progress.
