Aviation Equipment Holding Company to supply advanced components and landing gear for MS-21 aircraft

Aviation Equipment Holding Company (part of Rostec State Corporation) will start the mass production of the latest components of landing gear system for MS-21 aircraft in 2016 under a contract with Irkut Corporation worth 100 million rubles. Moreover, the company will develop a number of MS-21’s aircraft systems under a contract with Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade worth more than 600 million rubles, the holding company’s press-service reports.

In accordance with the Irkut Corporation, which is responsible for development of MS-21 aircraft, the cost of production of components for the jet’s landing gear system will exceed 100 million rubles. The holding company must deliver 13 kits of gear up lock and landing gear doors as well as 11 kits of hydraulic cylinders for the landing gear doors.  «One of the most important features of innovative components of MS-21 landing gear system developed by Aviation Equipment is their service life, – CEO of the company Maxim Kuzyuk said. – The equipment has a service life of 80000 flight hours and 60000 takeoffs and landings; its lifecycle is 30 years (twice as much as the life cycle of its analogues). The first components will be tested in 2014». 

Mass production of the components will be started at the company’s Samara-based site – Aviaagregat, which has already undergone a comprehensive audit in order to assess the preparation for certification of landing gear for MS-21 aircraft. Besides landing gear the holding company is developing other advanced systems for MS-21 jet under the contract with Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade signed following the results of a tender held in 2014 by the ministry. The total amount of investments in the network of this state contract will reach 610 million rubles (490 million rubles will be allocated from the federal budget and 120 million will be allocated from non-budgetary sources), the company’s press-service added.

“Under the contract, the holding company will develop a unique highly reliable fire protection system for MS-21 aircraft. This system may also be installed on Sukhoi Superjet 100 aircraft manufactured in Russia. Moreover, under the contract the Aviation Equipment will develop an emergency oxygen system for MS-21 and SSJ 100 jets designed to supply oxygen for the crew in case of depressurization at altitudes up to 12 500 m and protect the crew from smoke and toxic gases. Aviation Equipment will also develop onboard inert gas generating system and a set of actuators to control high-lift devices and aircraft control surfaces of MS-21,” the company’s press-service explained.
