It is planned to establish a machine-building cluster in Irkutsk Region on the basis of Irkut Corporation. It was stated by the governor of Irkutsk Region, Sergey Eroshenko, during a meeting on implementation of investment projects, held by the region’s government, the governor’s press-service reports.

«Establishment of the cluster will help create a basis required to launch low added value production with the participation of small and medium business. In the network of the cluster special centers will be established in order to create a processing chain and lower the barrier barring small and medium business from entering the market», - the press-service noted.

It is planned to sign a cooperation agreement between the government of Irkutsk Region, Federal Center for Project Finance (FCPF), United Aircraft Corporation (UAC), Irkut Corporation and Irkutsk State Technical University.

«Establishment of the aviation cluster will help integrate the existing enterprises and attract new ones as well as assure production of competitive products by the national aircraft industry. This project will require significant investments and will create new jobs», – Sergey Eroshenko noted. 

Implementation of other investment projects has also been discussed during the meeting. Minister of Economic Development of Irkutsk Region, Ruslan Kim, noted that a number of investment projects are being implemented in the region, in particular, this refers to projects in the area of extractive industries, timber industry, metallurgy, machine-building industry and transport industry. Among them are projects implemented by Verkhnechonskneftegaz, Irkutsk Oil Company, Angarsk Petrochemical Company, Transneft, Korshunov Mining Plant, Ilim Group, Irkutsk Aviation Plant (branch of Irkut Corporation). Tax revenues connected with implementation of the abovementioned projects for 2013 amounted to 26,1 billion rubles (the estimated tax revenues for 2014 - 27,8 billion rubles), the governor’s press-service added.
