Russian Aircraft Corporation MiG (RAC MiG) showcased a flight simulator with stereoscopic visualization system at VuzPromExpo-2014 exhibition held in Moscow, Interfax-AVN reports with reference to the representative of RAC MiG at the exhibition, Vladimir Ivanov.
"The system supports training in all aircraft maneuvers, including air-to-air refueling, takeoff and landing on the deck of a carrier, formation flying. These maneuvers are difficult because a pilot needs to track objects close to him and control the distance to these objects", - the representative of RAC MiG explained.
He also noted that RAC MiG developed the flight simulator in cooperation with the Moscow Aviation Institute (MAI) in the network of a government program for supporting cooperation between higher education institutions and the aircraft industry. Under this project 35 million rubles were allocated to MAI. RAC MiG invested around 60 million rubles (the corporation’s own funds).
V.Ivanov noted that the flight simulator is designed for simulating the flight of MiG-29K carrier-based fighter. It took about three years to develop the system. Every year about 30 or 40 students of MAI took part in this project together with the specialists of RAC MiG. The system was showcased in India and France as well as at MAKS airshow held in Russia. Test pilots of RAC MiG, Sukhoi Holding Company, Boeing as well as French and Indian military pilots have tested the flight simulator. "The feedback is all positive. Representatives of Krasnodar branch of the air force academy showed interest in the system", - the corporation’s representative said.
He also noted that work on this project would be continued. In particular, studies in the area of pilot’s psychophysiology to be carried out in cooperation with the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology. It is also planned to provide the simulator with a 3D motion system. "We are considering the possibilities for improving the visual effect", - the RAC MiG’s representative said.
