Klimov Company celebrated its 100th anniversary

The oldest enterprise of Russian aircraft industry – Klimov Company celebrated its 100th anniversary.

The enterprise was founded on October 20th 1914: the Imperator Nikolai II made a decision to establish a plant responsible for production and repair of cars and aircraft engines made by Renault. When the First World War began the plant’s top priority objective was to manufacture military equipment.

After the USSR was formed the enterprise continued its activities. During the period of collectivization the plant launched the production of spare parts for tractor engines. After the Second World War began the enterprise was moved to Ufa, where its specialists continued development of different engines. Leningrad-based production capacities of the plant were used for production of Katyusha rocket launcher since 1942.

At present Klimov Company specializes in development of engines for most Mi and Ka helicopters, jet engines for fighters and provision of MRO services. The enterprise’s staff comprises over 2000 employees. The helicopter engines are operated in more than 80 countries of the world. Over 90% of helicopters operated in Russia are powered by engines developed by Klimov Company, including helicopters operated by Rossiya special aircraft division servicing the President of Russia. MiG-29 and MiG-35 fighters are powered by jet engines developed by Klimov.

Klimov Company is a part of United Engine Corporation (100% owned subsidiary of Oboronprom Corporation responsible for managing engine-building assets).
