Russian Ministry of Defense plans to sign contracts for delivery of 50 new Su-30SM fighters and 10 Yak-130 operational trainers, Lenta.ru reports with reference to a source close to United Aircraft Corporation. The new fighters will be operated by Russian navy; first vehicles will be delivered to the customer by the end of 2015. The contract’s value will exceed $2 billion.
The ministry signed two contracts for delivery of Su-30SM fighters in 2012. Under these contracts Irkut Corporation must deliver 60 new Su-30SMs to the customer. It was reported earlier that Su-30SM fighters will replace outdated vehicles operated by the aviation of the Black Sea Fleet. According to one of the abovementioned contracts the deliveries should be completed by 2016.
Su-30SM is the modification of Su-30MK developed for Russian armed forces. The jet’s maximum flight speed is 2.100 km/h; its range is 3000 km. Su-30SM is able to carry a payload of 8 tons.
