FAI European Championship for Space Models for seniors and juniors was held at Kaspichan (Bulgaria) in late August 2013, press-service of Moscow Aviation Institute (MAI) reports.

«About 160 participants from 13 countries took part in the championship. They competed in 9 classes. Russian team comprised 14 seniors and 9 juniors; two student of MAI were among them – first-year student Alexey Ezhov and the final year student Kirill Strokov (both of them represent the “Aircraft Engines” faculty)», - MAI noted.

Russian participants have won three gold, two silver and four bronze medals in different classes; Team Russia took first place. The juniors won two gold, one silver and five bronze medals; their team also took first place.

«Alexey Ezhov (group 02–616) took first place in S5С class (scale altitude models). Alexey used the 1:25,45 scale model of two-stage Bumper Wac meteorological rocket. After the stand assessment his model took 5th place. Following the results of third round, when the weather has improved, Alexey’s model has reached the altitude of 801 meters and the rivals have failed to catch up with him. Kirill Strokov (group 2О–107С) took third place in S8D class (rocket glider duration). Kirill used the model of Hydrogen 2D rocket glider developed by Alexey Ezhov. He was also fortunate in the third round: thanks to the straight takeoff to the thermal cushion he managed to stay in the air for more than 6 minutes and then land its model in a bonus zone winning the bronze medal. Another Russian participant took the first place in this class», - MAI said.

Some parts of Hydrogen 2D rocket glider have been manufactured by a Resource Center of the “Aircraft Engines” faculty. Moreover, participants from other countries took interest in the models developed by Russian students. For example, participants from CIS Region also used the models of these rocket gliders.
