Russian Ministry of Defense is satisfied with Russian-produced short- and medium-range UAVs

Russian Ministry of Defense is satisfied with Russian-produced short- and medium-range UAVs, but there is a gap in development of UCAVs and long-range UAVs, RIA Novosti reports. It was stated by the Deputy Minister of Defense, Yuri Borisov.

"At present our industry is able to manufacture short-range UAVs (with a range of 120-150 km). The enterprises are using mature technologies and the quality of their products is acceptable. We are purchasing these vehicles", — Yuri Borisov said.

Speaking of development of long-range UAVs and UCAVs, the Deputy Minister noted that there is a gap in this area. "There is a gap, I must admit that, but we are taking serious steps in order to eliminate it as soon as possible", — Yuri Borisov said.

In addition, he said that “purchase of foreign-produced weapons and equipment is the road to nowhere”, because the characteristics of exported products are lower as compared to the ones developed on their own account. "All the engineering must be carried out in Russia", — he stated.
