Academician M.F. Reshetnev Information Satellite Systems (ISS) plans to manufacture 10 Glonass-M satellites in 2013-2014. The satellites are manufactured ahead of schedule taking into account possible emergencies, CEO of the enterprise, Nikolay Testoedov, told RIA Novosti.

He said earlier that two satellites will be launched this year in order to compensate the loss of Proton-M carrier rocket with three satellites and complement the GLONASS satellite constellation currently comprising 24 satellites.

"Two satellites should be launched in September and the fourth quarter of 2013 respectively. However, the production program assumes that five satellites must be manufactured in 2013. We will manufacture another five ones in 2014. We are running ahead of schedule, because it is hard to forecast the launch success ratio – we must have a stock of satellites", — Nikolay Testoedov said.

"The previous-generation satellites have an operating life of 3 years, but most of them have been working for 4.5 years. Our new Glonass-M satellites have an operating life of 7 years, but we don’t rule out the possibility of extending their service life and changing the dates for taking them out of service", — he noted.
