The Russia’s only aircraft in a retro livery (Airbus A320) has joined the fleet of Aeroflot – Russian Airlines in the network of celebration of the carrier’s 90-th Anniversary, the airline’s press-service reports.
Aeroflot organized a voting in social networks to choose the best livery for its retro-jet in late 2012. The livery resembling design of the first Tu-104 (was put into service in 1956) won the competition. The majority of users believe that this livery describes the spirit of romantic 1950s - the time when the air transport in the country was growing rapidly and important milestones were reached by the national aircraft industry.
The comments of users, safety standards and recommendations of Airbus and Akzo Nobel in terms of spray-coating and the paint’s operational characteristics have been taken into account during development of the final draft of the livery. The carrier’s archives have been studied during the development.
Aeroflot’s retro-jet was named «Dobrolet» after the Open Joint Stock Company founded on March 17th 1923. Later it was renamed Aeroflot. The addition of this jet to the Aeroflot’s fleet symbolizes the airline’s heritage and increases public interest in the history of Aeroflot.
In spite of the carrier’s age, it has one of the youngest fleets in Europe. Currently it operates 137 aircraft, including 87 Airbus A319/320/321 Family aircraft.
All the Airbus aircraft are delivered to the carrier directly from the manufacturer’s sight. The jets have a two-class cabin seating 116 (А319), 140 and 158 (А320) and 170 (А321) passengers. Aeroflot operates the A320 Family jets on European and domestic flights. Aeroflot is among the world’s leading companies by service reliability and the actual time in the air per aircraft, the company reported.
