NPO Energomash is able to manufacture 10 RD-191 engines for Angara launch vehicle (LV) per year, Golos Rossii radio station reports. It was stated by the COO of NPO Energomash, Vladimir Solntsev.
"At present we are able to manufacture 10 engines per year, but we can increase the output without significant investments. We are ready to supply engines for all the operated Angara launch vehicles", - he said.
According to him, the certification and qualification tests of the engine were successfully completed in 2011. "The engine is ready. We have already manufactured six serial engines and delivered them to Khrunichev State Research and Production Space Center. One of the engines will power the small- or medium-lift version of Angara; the rest five engines will power a heavy-lift Angara LV. At present we are manufacturing another six engines for the second flight kit", - Vladimir Solntsev noted.
He expressed hope that the successful launch of the first Angara LV in 2014 will cause the expansion of this program and the increase of capacity rate for NPO Energomash.
“Angara LV should have been launched in 2013, however its launch has slipped to 2014. Everybody is expecting it to be successful. And I hope that this will cause the expansion of this program and increase of capacity rate of the enterprises", - Vladimir Solntsev said.
According to him, NPO Energomash has elaborated a cost minimization program for production of engines for Angara LV. "Despite increase of prices for energy and materials we were able to decrease the cost of production of RD-191 engine by 8% in 2012. At present its profitability tends towards zero, but I think the next five engines will generate profit", - he noted.
